As we finalized more of our travel plans, started packing up to leave home for a few months straight, got our house sitter in place, we slowly came to a harsh truth. That we really and truly are leaving behind our cats, Spooky and Ralph.
For the non pet-owners out there, dedicating an entire post to our cats will probably seem slightly absurd. But as all of the pet owners out there already know and understand, pets are much more than just fur monsters that think they own your house. They’re not like monsters at all – they’re more like fur babies.
Leaving our cats holds a special place in our hearts, even more than leaving our families and friends. They depend on us and trust us to see them through a life they can’t begin to understand. We can talk to our families and friends, explain where we’re going and when we’ll be back, but that’s not true with our fur babies. As far as they know, we’ve abandoned them, and when you think of it like that it can really break your heart to leave.
But they’re in good hands with our house-sitter Jenni. We know they’ll be looked after and loved.
There is an up-side to leaving our fur-babies though: we can’t wait for the excitement of coming back home to them :)

I know what you mean. I feel the same way about my husband ;)

Lol, I bet he has the same sweet look in his eyes as our cats when we leave too ;)

I know cats who are better at guilt tripping their owners about leaving then any human family could be. The good thing about pets, though, is that they always forgive you when you come back. Even if it sometimes requires bribes and petting.
